Activity
Identity and Memory in European Contemporary Drama
The aim of the research group is to investigate the relations between theatre, memory and identity, as they take form in the 20th and 21st centuries.
The group works on the main plays/performances and dramatists/artists – particularly focusing the Spanish and Catalan areas – and disseminates the results achieved by publishing studies, editions and translations and presenting papers in national and international congresses.
To deepen this topic, transculturality is central, due to the impact of migration, multiculturalism and globalization in our societies. Contemporary European theatre demonstrates that transcultural perspectives have redefined individual and collective identities in Europe, and explores the dynamics of the relationship between the fluid nature of cultural identity and its representations.
The study of the historical context of the plays on memory and identity will allow the group to identify the key themes and to focus on the strategies associated with the performance of identity, as well as the contradictions and specificities in the European shared and unshared past as represented in these works which challenge the audience's historical imagination and renew its engagement.
The first working phase culminated in the framework of a PRIN national project, supported by the italian Ministero dell'Istruzione, dell'Università e della Ricerca - MIUR:
PRIN 2008, “Relazioni intertestuali fra Spagna e Italia. Riscritture e traduzioni” (national coordinator: G. Poggi), specific workpackage: “L'impegno civile nel teatro spagnolo contemporaneo”.
Outputs:
3 monographs;
32 articles in international, double blind peer review journals/reviews and collective monographs (vid. Orazi's, Greco's and Fox's CV)
